Everyone should have the right to travel, should they choose to, and be able to explore even the farthest edge of the globe. That day, I realized that accessible travel is not only for those with special needs, but for everyone, as we all need a little help at some or the other point in our lives.
Social stigma around being sick and unhealthy has a major role to play behind the delay before and after the diagnosis. As a cancer patient, the stigma is further worse. A major element of a patient’s insecurities is the fear of being discriminated.
It is hard to accept the saddening truth about the condition of senior citizens in India – a country where children are more than welcome to live off their parents even after they are adults and where the blessings of the elders in the family are the laying stones of any new venture.
It is unbelievable how personal experiences can change your perspective towards numerous notions. One such episode with an exceptional man compelled me to question myself about the general understanding of the term disability. It not only changed my perspective towards people with special needs but also my attitude towards life.
